The 22nd of April is Earth Day. 24 hours when, globally, we take time to think about how our actions impact the planet. Earth Day is now in its 51st year and doing our bit for the planet is more important than ever. While the past year has been tough, many of us have had more time. Slow living enables us to take a time to think about our impact on the planet, if this sounds familiar perhaps you spent this time being more sustainable - you might have been recycling more, using fewer modes of pollution-producing transport, maybe you took up growing your own herbs or vegetables?
We all need to make a difference; we all need to do our part. Brands have a responsibility to help tackle the crucial planetary challenges and Kérastase is accelerating its global sustainable transformation. Today, keep reading to discover how our iconic shampoos are produced in a more sustainable way and what we’re planning to do to keep on improving.
Waterloop Wonder
All our shampoos are also made in an innovative waterloop factory. At Kérastase, 100% of the water used in our industrial processes used to produce our shampoos is recycled and reused in a loop. It is now possible to recycle wasted water for industrial processes indefinitely and since 2017, our Burgos plant in Spain is a “waterloop factory”. That means the entire amount of water required for different production purposes, such as the washing of tanks and steam production, comes entirely from water recycled in a loop on site.
Recycle in Your Bathroom, Too
We all know to recycle our kitchen items, from water bottles to cardboard cartons, but did you know all Kérastase shampoo bottles (below the cap) are fully recyclable? So, after you have finished your shampoo you simply remove the cap and recycle it. And this year, all of our shampoos will switch to being made from 100% post-consumer recycled materials. That means, the plastic used in your Kérastase shampoo bottle will be made from 100% recycled plastic while also staying 100% recyclable.
In fact, the only water consumption is the water used in the product formulas and for human consumption (like water for coffee!). In 2020 alone, the factory saved the equivalent of 700 peoples’ annual water consumption. Not only does the Kérastase production save water, it’s also been carbon neutral since 2015.
Our Future Commitments Regarding Packaging
Not a brand to rest, Kérastase is committed to improving and reducing its environmental footprint with caring for the planet at the forefront of these innovations.
Here are just two of our major commitments for the years to come: By 2025, we are committed to ensuring that 100% of all of our plastic packaging will be refillable, reusable, or recyclable; By 2030, 100% of the plastics used in all our packaging will be either from recycled or bio-based sources which is renewable;
