Get to know Charlotte Lawrence
Kérastase’s new ambassador talks passion, ambition and the beauty of confidence.
For Charlotte Lawrence, everything is personal. Especially her music. The singer-songwriter brings an epic vibe to extremely intimate lyrics for a singular sound that is now beloved all over the world. Songs like “Just the Same,” “Sleep Talking,” and “Joke’s On You,” have drawn millions of streams, helping her fans face their own emotional struggles. She will release her debut full-length soon, and stars in the new Apple TV+ series Bad Monkey.
For Charlotte, a Los Angeles native, opening up about her innermost feelings and aspirations is just natural. Which fits with her current haircare preference – her goal is to grow it out and nurture it back to health after the stress of color treatment and the styling demands of being a rising star. “You Dare, We Care” means you can experiment and have fun with your hair while still keeping it healthy,” she says of the Kérastase motto. “I think beauty is one of the highest forms of self-expression. However you feel most confident, to me, is the most powerful.”
What is your biggest aspiration for your career?
To reach and help a lot of people with my music in whatever way I can. The most special moments in my career are when someone tells me how the lyrics I wrote affected them and helped them. It’s a magical feeling. I also wanna sell out the Hollywood Bowl! That’s a huge dream of mine. It’s my favorite venue in the world and growing up in Los Angeles I saw so many of my favorite concerts there.
What are you most proud of in your career so far?
I’m so proud of the songs I’ve been writing lately. I’ve put a lot of hours into songwriting and I’m proud of how I express my feelings through my art and how I’ve been vulnerable and honest with my writing. I love learning and writing with insanely talented songwriters.
What does it mean to be an empowered woman?
To do whatever you want, wear whatever you want, sleep with whoever you want, unapologetically. To stand up for yourself in every situation, and always demand what you deserve: respect and equality. I identify with women who pursue their dreams and work hard to succeed.
What is your favorite Kérastase product?
I just love the new Kérastase Chroma Absolu range for all kinds of color-treated hair. My hair feels super healthy and it’s also really soft and shiny. When you have sensitized hair like me because of bleaching and color treatments, it’s all you need.
When do you feel most beautiful?
When I feel happy, to be honest. I think confidence and happiness are what make a person beautiful.
Charlotte, what are you most passionate about right now?
My music is my passion now, and forever.
